Coopers Country: Danny wins the double

South Australian singer songwriter, Danny Hooper, has won Coopers Country: The Australian Song Competition.

In a clean sweep, Coopers Animal Health is pleased to announce that Danny has won both the major prize of $15,000 for his song You're in good hands, and the People's Choice award of $5000 for Dreamland.

Danny will now record his winning entry in Sony Music's Sydney studio, using the same soundboard used to produce Michael Jackson's ground-breaking album, Thriller. The song will feature in the Coopers Animal Health television commercial in 2012. Hailing from the famous vineyard town of Clare in Mid North South Australia, Danny says that he is humbled by the overwhelming support he received during the competition.

"Just walking down the street in Clare, I was blown away at how many people knew I had entered and that the word had spread throughout the entire community," Danny said. "My wife, Lea and three children Jace, Courteney and Tom were a huge support as always and my biggest fans. "I am usually a pretty fuss-free kind of guy, so all of the support for my music was very humbling."

He was also quick to recognise the enormity of receiving exposure at the top level through the Coopers Animal Health television commercial and Sony Music.

"It is not often you have the opportunity to showcase your music in front of industry executives, so that is something I'll grab with both hands," Danny said.

"Coopers Country is such a unique competition as it was available to everyone, and we could really make our own luck by getting all our friends and networks behind it."

Danny grew up singing songs around the kitchen table with his parents and three sisters - music meant entertainment for the Hooper family who lived on a remote station in South Australia's Mid North.

In 1987 aged 18, pen first went to paper and Danny began song writing, penning a tune to then girlfriend and now wife, Lea. Since, Danny has won a swag of awards in a career that has seen his songs achieve time in the Country Music Channel charts and release an album The Legacy, in 2007.

Now, Danny's music will be heard nationwide as the anthem for Coopers Animal Health.

JL MUSIC PUBLISHING SIGNS DEXTER JONES

Independent Music Publisher JL Music Publishing is delighted to announce the signing of Adelaide based pop/rock act Dexter Jones to their artist roster.

First recording as a band in 2001 and with 5 releases now under their belt, Dexter Jones has become a mainstay on the Australian pub rock scene. With the addition of ex Blow Up Betty drummer Kristy Mitchell joining the band in 2010, Dexter Jones has built a solid reputation as an energetic live rock act through national touring and regular performances in their home state.

With a sound that faster louder describes as "like Franz Ferdinand would have sounded if they were big in the 70's", Dexter Jones music fuses indie rock guitars with the vocal harmonies of 60's and 70' britpop to create an array of catchy singalong anthems and foot stomping rock tunes.

Dexter Jones last single DCF was recently used as a theme song for the New York Marathon and the band is currently putting the final touches on a music video for next single Unique New York, to be released in September/October.

eMDee rocks the Montreal International Fireworks Festival

(Reproduced via http://montreal-fireworks.com/ReportBlog/?p=444)

Superb summer weather greeted the third participation of Howard and Sons and provided for perfect conditions for their live musicians, eMDee, who were floating on the Lac des Dauphins on a platform. For only the second time in the competition's history, a daring move by the Australian team, using the percussion and didgeridoo duo from Northern Australia to illustrate the theme of their display – a homage to the World Heritage site of Kakadu, covering some 20,000 square kilometers.

The display began with a performance by eMDee to the accompaniment of very large flame effects, the largest I recall seeing at La Ronde produced purely by pyrotechnics. The synchronization between the music and the fireworks became quickly apparent and the audience soon became mesmerized by the pulsing rhythm of the drums and didgeridoo, the range of sounds produced by the latter being quite exceptional.

TRACER RETURNS HOME FROM EUROPEAN TOUR

tracer

Upon the completion of their most successful international tour, Adelaide hard rock outfit Tracer, have returned to Adelaide, in anticipation of their homecoming show. Having spent the last six weeks touring Europe, including a highly celebrated performance at the prestigious Popkomm Music Festival, Tracer are now home, ready to rock out at a free show at the Jetty Bar, Glenelg on the 30th of October.

While the guys were overseas, the biggest news in the Tracer camp was of their long term signing to European label Cool Green Recording (a sub label of Mascot records). The record deal will see the group pulling together their next four releases under the European based label, which will help secure future international tours for the group.

Vocalist Michael Brown is thrilled about the idea of again heading back overseas on tour, "Europe was fantastic. We played so many great shows and made so many great friends" Said Mr Brown. "From a band perspective, we also made some great contacts and opened avenues we really hope to utilise when we next head back."

Forming out of the ashes of blues prodigy band The Brown Brothers in 2004, Michael (Vocals and guitar) and Leigh Brown (Vocals and Bass) teamed up with drummer Andre Wise to make Tracer. Tracer's sophomore release in 2008, L.A.?, showcased the bands new direction, with a sound reminiscent of 90's stoner rock mixed with the everlasting bravado of 70's classic rock. Tracer teamed up with JL Music Publishing in late 2009 and Sound Contact Management in early 2010.

Now back on Australian soil, Tracer is looking forward to playing to a home crowd again. Their first show back in Adelaide will be at The Jetty Bar in Glenelg, on October 30 and bass player Leigh Brown could not be happier.

"While we loved playing in Europe and were received really well, we have truthfully missed playing back at home, with all our friends and family" he said, "the whole band is super excited about the 30th of October at the Jetty Bar, it's going to be one huge welcoming home party."

Adelaide hard rock act Tracer proudly announced today that it has signed a long term record deal with Dutch label Cool Green Recordings (a sub label of Mascot Records). Currently touring Europe and on the back of a highly successful performance at Germany's Popkomm Festival, the band was pleased to put pen to paper in Rotterdam last night.

"Needless to say the band is incredibly excited" says vocalist and guitarist Michael Brown, "it feels like the last six years of hard work, great and not so great gigs, smelly vans, endless hours of travel and our dwindling bank accounts have finally paid off"

Tracer teamed up with JL Music Publishing in late 2009 and Sound Contact Management in early 2010.

Michael Brown is cautiously optimistic about the new record deal and what it means for the band. JLMP SIGN THE KILL GIRLS AND NEON ELECTRIC

The Killgirls are a 5 piece dance/rock band from Adelaide, SA consisting of Tony Irish (drums/percussion), Adam Hood (synthesizers), Nick O'Connor (bass/backing vocals), Rusty Hutchinson (guitars/backing vocals) and Mario Spate (vocals/synthesizers). The band formed in 2007 and after a few line up changes, they have been moulding their sound and building a loyal fan base.

They have played all of Adelaide’s indie haunts, supported UK International’s, packed Producer’s ‘Wish’ and The Ed’s ‘Transmission Live’ and recorded their debut EP in November 2008 with Melbourne producer Jed Palmer who is currently producing Vince Giarusso’s (Underground Lovers, Mist and Sea) new album. They have also enlisted the help of UK mastering legend Mike Marsh who has worked with the likes of The Prodigy, Chemical Bros, Does It Offend You, Yeah? and The Presets.

Fresh from supporting the Bumblebeez at HQ, you can catch The Killgirls supporting Art vs Science at Jive on 21st August 2009.

Neon Electric is a two-piece electro-pop band from Adelaide, SA consisting of Tony Irish (drums) and Mario Spate (vocals/synthesiser). It's music for dancing, late nights, street parties, holding hands, telling secrets, first kisses and road trips. Smooth electro pop influenced by the sounds of 70's disco and 80's New Wave.

Tony and Mario met through Adelaide's live music scene and have worked on several projects together throughout the years, their tastes may vary but they both share a love of simple songs and catchy hooks. The band's music is written, recorded and produced by Mario with a strong focus on hardware synths and avoiding preset sounds. Tony Irish completes the live show by bringing his interpretation and flavour to the drums.

Neon Electric are influenced by moods rather than sounds, the feeling of being young, surprising yourself and trying to be brave even if you screw up. The first time you kissed someone on the lips, riding your bike around the neighbourhood, telling someone you will be friends forever and the first time you saw Star Wars.

Look out for the debut album 'Electric!' in stores soon....

NEW ARTISTS ON JLP

Tracer

JL Music Publishing are excited to announce two new artist signings, with rock band Tracer and Indie Pop darlings, The Touch coming on board.

Tracer is one of the most talented young bands to come out of Australia in recent years, having formed out of the ashes of blues prodigy band The Brown Brothers in 2004. With the Brown Brothers, the boys had the distinction of being the youngest artist to play the Byron Bay Blues & Roots Festival (at 11 & 13 respectively!) and went on to play the prestigious event a further 2 times. The formation of Tracer has seen a blending of these blues rock influences with a passion for songwriting, leading to the release of the outstanding EP ‘Into The Night’ followed by festival performances and Australian touring. With a sound reminiscent of 90’s grunge/stoner rock mixed with the everlasting bravado of 70’s classic rock, Tracer is a driving, sonic sledgehammer of massive guitars, clever hooks and raw uncompromising vocals. Tracer released their latest EP ‘L.A.?’ in early 2009 and will be embarking on a European tour from September which includes performances at the prestigious Popkomm Festival.

With Triple J hailing them as one of the groups “Leading the Pack” and Drum Media calling them “So hot right now”, The Touch have taken over. "Shit... didn't you know!? " Indie Rock darlings, The Touch have one of those sounds you cant get out of your head – electrifying, frenetic – these boys ARE right now. Performances with the likes of Ladyhawke, Van She, The Galvatrons, Dukes of Windsor, Grafton Primary and at Parklife have showcased this bands incredible talent, hidden behind or perhaps within the party that it their live show. With one EP under their belts and a new Album being recorded from mid 2009, The Touch are THE band to watch in 2009.
